BOSCH PTS10 Dust Extractor

! WARNING ! This is a DIY project made for my own purposes and its usage is AT YOUR OWN RISK.

If you guys own a PTS10 like me, you surely well know its weak ability to extract and collect saw dust.. It doesn’t matter if you use a shopvac connected on its back or not: simply it does a very poor extraction job. This is why I was thinking to find a solution because I still like this machine even if it is a bit too much on the DIYer’s side of the quality. So there you go, I am pretty happy of how it turned out!

But let’s start from the beginning. Firstly I wanted to re-use one of the two halves of the original blade guard and just re-design the other one by creating a shopvac connection port. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to measure with enough precision the original part to have a perfect fit. I then decided to make a whole new design and print the whole group from scratch.

For those of you that have been following this post you probably noticed that my first print was an entirely 3D printed but after 15 hours of printing, after having realized that I forgot the mounting hole and some other stuff on the 3D model, well.. I had to change my mind again as I didn’t want to waste any more filament and time. Anyhow this was the design I came with and I have to say that I was pretty happy about it and this is why the 3D model is still available on thingiverse and I can provide you the editable version if you wish.

So I decided to go with the motto less is more and try to find the simplest design I could. I didn’t want to print a huge model. Therefore I replicated the blade cover by simply scribing the original one into a sheet of 15 mm thick plywood. Then I cut two almost identical pieces with the jigsaw.

Of course the plywood part has to be sanded and refined but I wanted to give it a try before finishing it.
